Red Rocks cultural center Théoule

On the coast of Théoule-sur-Mer, beside the Calanque de Maubois, a cultural centre settles into the red Estérel rock. The programme pairs dance rehearsal studios, exhibition rooms and workshops with a landscape intervention that draws visitors down toward the sea and the view. The building works with the relief instead of sitting on it: it follows the line of the rocks, spares the existing mineral masses and keeps the wild character of the site dominant. The result reads as a discreet place, tucked into the calanques, where the architecture stays second to the landscape.
