In Nice, the Métropole Nice Côte d'Azur put its horticultural production greenhouses out to competition, the facility that grows the plants for the city's parks, beds and events. The brief, 8,500 m² of floor area, is not a display building but a production chain: propagation and flowering-plant greenhouses, a heated house for foliage plants, a production and germination centre, rainwater recovery tanks. Jean-Marc Chancel's proposal also takes on the organisational feasibility of the metropolis's new green-spaces department, handling the site as a piece of urban agricultural infrastructure rather than an architectural object.
