Student residence Lyon

Winning competition entry for a student residence in Lyon by Exndo. The plan sits on a square parcel cut diagonally by its entrance: at the centre, a patio articulates two residential wings; on either side, two unbuilt squares, one acting as a public threshold and amenity for the neighbourhood, the other a densely planted cooling island feeding urban biodiversity. The composition revisits the orders and ornamental rhythms of early-twentieth-century villas through a deliberately contemporary lens. The build is low-carbon: a reversible post-and-beam structure, fully natural ventilation through thermal chimneys, 42 kg/m² of biosourced materials, targeting the 2028 RE2020 threshold.
