In Nantes, in the Grand Bellevue, the MF5 block opens the urban renewal of place Mendès-France. Magnum's scheme anchors itself to three landmarks of the site: the square, the Bellevue market and the garden. A commercial base and a first brick volume mark the way into the neighbourhood from the square and the transport hub; toward the garden, the building turns a more outgoing timber façade. Every flat gets a generous loggia that opens by degrees depending on how intense its surroundings are, leaving residents room to make the space their own. At its foot, an open-ground garden of local species runs into planted roofs.
