In Les Aygalades, in Marseille's northern districts, Jean-Marc Chancel's new school complex was inaugurated in October 2025. It brings together a nursery school and a primary school in buildings made from biosourced materials, reusing part of the old school's fabric wherever it could be salvaged. Classroom thermal comfort drove the design: no overheating in summer, no cold in winter, in a part of the city where the summer heat is harsh. The playgrounds were de-paved and planted to gain coolness, treating the school's ground as a climate device as much as a place to play.
