Swimming pool Les Mureaux

In Les Mureaux, Z Architecture has entered the competition for the renovation of a swimming pool inherited from the Mille Piscines programme, France's early-1970s push to give every mid-sized town a covered pool. Fifty years on, the original shell still stands. The project keeps it, restores it, and migrates changing rooms and back-of-house functions into a new adjacent wing: volume opens up around the basin, and light finds its way back under the period envelope. Outside, a generous planted area opens the building onto summer: a wide lawn, splash pads, and direct access from the indoor basin into the open air. The whole reads as a careful gesture toward a piece of public sporting heritage that is often forgotten.
