Toronto housing

On the outskirts of Toronto, where vegetation takes over from the city, an eight-storey housing block rises as a landmark. The building is terracotta-pigmented concrete, a dense, coloured mass that stands out against the tree cover and, in winter, against the snow. The ground floor is given over to shared space for residents, with the upper levels for housing. Rather than blending into the landscape, the building owns its presence: a clean, inhabited object set where the city stops and the ground turns back to woodland.
